1. Re: Wolfson modified Noobs raspbian zipped img Cannot unzip new download
geordie Mar 16, 2014 6:48 PM (in response to superpat)I am experiencing the same problem. I have downloaded http://downloads.element14.com/wolfson/wolfson_3.10_master.zip onto two different computer systems, and on both systems get the following error message when using unzip to unpack the file:
sh-4.2$ unzip wolfson_3.10_master.zip
Archive: wolfson_3.10_master.zip
warning [wolfson_3.10_master.zip]: 418149653 extra bytes at beginning or within zipfile
(attempting to process anyway)
error [wolfson_3.10_master.zip]: start of central directory not found;
zipfile corrupt.
(please check that you have transferred or created the zipfile in the
appropriate BINARY mode and that you have compiled UnZip properly)
Has anyone unzipped this file succesfully? Which version of unzip or other archive program did you use?
Thanks,
Geordie

I've not tried it on the file you mention, but on other zip files occasionally Windows in-built unzipping capability fails.
WinZip comes with nags and bloatware, and is really not recommended either.
7-zip has never failed for me. It may be worth a try.
On Linux I just use built-in unzip CLI utility.

3. Re: Wolfson modified Noobs raspbian zipped img Cannot unzip new download
geordie Mar 16, 2014 8:07 PM (in response to shabaz)In both cases I used unzip on the command line. I also unzipped it with "The Unarchiver" on MacOS 10.7.4. That didn't work either. Unfortunately I don't have a Windows installation so I can't try 7-zip...

5. Re: Wolfson modified Noobs raspbian zipped img Cannot unzip new download
ragnar.jensen Mar 17, 2014 4:13 PM (in response to superpat)I have kept my original download, but I have downloaded the zip file again to compare them.
I'm running WinXP with Cygwin.
My old download from Feb 26 and today's are identical.
$ ls -ltr *wolfson*zip -rwx------+ 1 ragnar Ingen 4713117059 Feb 26 12:16 wolfson_3.10_master.zip -rwx------+ 1 ragnar Ingen 4713117059 Mar 17 21:12 new_wolfson_3.10_master.zip $ md5sum wolfson_3.10_master.zip new_wolfson_3.10_master.zip 72d091a9b43e47a5b7b85432ec15611c *wolfson_3.10_master.zip 72d091a9b43e47a5b7b85432ec15611c *new_wolfson_3.10_master.zip
WinZip complains - "Archive is greater than 4 gigabytes."
WinRAR complains - "! ... wolfson_3.10_master.zip: Either multipart or corrupt ZIP archive"
Command line unzip complains - "warning [wolfson_3.10_master.zip]: 418149653 extra bytes at beginning or within zipfile...error [wolfson_3.10_master.zip]: start of central directory not found;...
7-zip works, it extracts the image OK.
There are Linux and OSX versions of 7-zip available at http://www.7-zip.org/download.html

6. Re: Wolfson modified Noobs raspbian zipped img Cannot unzip new download
superpat Mar 18, 2014 4:42 AM (in response to ragnar.jensen)Hi Ragnar,
The first time I downloaded the file and uzipped it, I used my LInux box, and I had no problems, I think, (not sure) I have rebuilt the Linux system in the meantime, (which I do quite often), and moved from pure Debian to a Mint distro.
Unfortunately, I cannot remember whether the Deb system had any 'special' unzippers installed, or how I unzipped it the first time.
I know that with the current system, I cannot use the standard cli unzip, or the gui un-archiver, (I don't know whether that is a wrapper for the standard unzip).
I will try your recommendation later.
thanks

7. Re: Wolfson modified Noobs raspbian zipped img Cannot unzip new download
ragnar.jensen Mar 18, 2014 4:53 AM (in response to superpat)At least in the Ubuntu and Raspbian repositories, there are 7-zip packages available.
p7zip - 7z file archiver with high compression ratio
p7zip-full - 7z and 7za file archivers with high compression ratio

benjaminbellamy Mar 18, 2014 12:29 PM (in response to superpat)I successfully unzipped the file on MacOS using Keka ( Keka - the free Mac OS X file archiver ).

9. Re: Wolfson modified Noobs raspbian zipped img Cannot unzip new download
geordie Mar 18, 2014 2:04 PM (in response to ragnar.jensen)Sadly, 7-zip on macos 10.7.4 fails to open the file as well. "Keka" fails with the following error:
Extraction of wolfson_3.10_master.zip failed
Error code 2 using "p7zip"
Fatal error
In the absence of any customer support whatsoever from Element14/Newark and Wolfson Microelectronics I guess I'll just try downloading the next macos version of 7-zip from http://www.7-zip.org/download.html
This product - the audio card - sure is Mickey Mouse! Can it be that the it requires windows in order to work? It would have been helpful if they had said that up front.
I just want to use the card that I paid them good money for.
Thanks, Ragnar and Benjamin

dmaddoux Mar 18, 2014 2:56 PM (in response to superpat)I'm having the same problem. The download process shows that the image file is supposed to be 4.4gb yet only 480mb is all that's downloaded. Is this correct?

11. Re: Wolfson modified Noobs raspbian zipped img Cannot unzip new download
ragnar.jensen Mar 19, 2014 2:33 AM (in response to dmaddoux)No, the download should be the full 4.4 GB (4 713 117 059 bytes.)

12. Re: Wolfson modified Noobs raspbian zipped img Cannot unzip new download
benjaminbellamy Mar 19, 2014 6:24 AM (in response to superpat)This is the checksum on my downloaded file, which was successfully unzipped by Keka (unzip said "start of central directory not found; zipfile corrupt."):
MD5 (wolfson_3.10_master.zip) = 72d091a9b43e47a5b7b85432ec15611c
and the unzipped .img file:
MD5 (wolfson_3.10_master.img) = 814e5257f385508d2d2ae9c8b641243d
NB: The files with these checksums actually work.

14. Re: Wolfson modified Noobs raspbian zipped img Cannot unzip new download
ragnar.jensen Mar 26, 2014 3:15 PM (in response to geordie)I'm home sick with the flu.
I got bored.
So I decided I would try to make a smaller zip file for you.
I have downloaded the Raspbian install image (2014-01-07-wheezy-raspbian.zip) from www.raspberrypi.org and patched in the Wolfson drivers.
I burned the patched image to an SD card, booted from it and went through the Raspbian set-up procedure.
Rebooted and... It works
There is sound from the Wolfson card!
I have zipped the patched image and uploaded it to my Google Drive:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzIaxMH3N5O1RUdSa19od1ltTjg/edit?usp=sharing
The file name is 2014-01-07-wheezy-raspbianW.zip, size is 801 MB.
md5sum 04c5fc96d196c6dc32c2bf1ad57c0124
I hope I have set the sharing permission right for you to access it.
Note: this is the stock Raspbian image, except for the kernel. The music player and extra programs needed are not installed.
sudo apt-get install lxmusic xmms2 xmms2-plugin-all volumeicon-alsa mpg123 mplayer
The use case scripts are there in the folder /home/pi/use_case_scripts
EDIT: I forgot to mention that the stock kernel from the Foundation is present in the image too.
It's in /boot/kernel_original.img, so if you want to use that instead, just copy it over /boot/kernel.img:
sudo cp /boot/kernel_original.img /boot/kernel.img
To switch back to the patched kernel:
sudo cp /boot/kernel_wolfson.img /boot/kernel.img

Hi,
I deleted my original zip download and the img of the above file. I have downloaded it again, but all the unzip programs I try will not unzip it, ( say no unzip sig).
I have painfully downloaded it again and still no joy with unzipping.
Have you changed the file recently?
Please, please publish the md5 sum for this file! (so I can eliminate download errors)
many thanks
regards
Patrick
