Vuzix and Wii have teamed up to make a new instrument for music making. The new system is called ARmonica, but don’t confuse this with the instrument dubbed ‘the world’s deadliest musical instrument’ created by Ben Franklin. This ARmonica was created by Professor Steven Feiner from Columbia Universities Computer Graphics and User Interfaces Lab. This new AR system lets two people make music by using Vuzix AR glasses that show a real time feed of the environment the players are in. The players then use Wii remotes superimposed in that environment to create musical bars or squares that they then can bounce balls off of to create musical notes. Both the player’s glasses and remotes are synched together so that each can see what the other sees and where each player placed the musical targets. This would seem a much safer ARmonica than the led glass one made by Franklin.
