    Embed of YouTube video fails

    jomoenginer

I attempted to Embed a video I posted on YouTube but I got an error.

The message stated the error would be automatically sent to support.

      Cheers,

      Jon

I can confirm this problem.   It is not just embedding videos,  the functionality with YouTube videos in some of the widgets are broken as well.

I am going to open a ticket with the dev team to fix this.   In the meantime,  if you are comfortable modifying the HTML there is this workaround:

You can add the youtube video using this code:

            <p><img class="jive_macro jive_macro_youtube" height="360" width="640" jivemacro="youtube" ___default_attr="###" /></p>

            replace ###

with the id of your youtube video.  For instance:

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqAEEjyXvUQ

            would look like this:

            <p><img class="jive_macro jive_macro_youtube" height="360" width="640" jivemacro="youtube" ___default_attr="yqAEEjyXvUQ" /></p>

I've reproduced this - it's affecting the entire site, and all our other sites as well.

I've been quiet because I've been trying to get to the bottom of what is up and what the root cause is. I expect this issue to suddenly go away at some point and I want to get as much detail on the failures as I can while it's still failing.

The root cause is when it is trying to embed a thumbnail image of the video into draft content. We use a third party ( https://embed.ly/ ) to insert content onto the site and they are returning an error that isn't getting handled. We then try to insert that error as an image, and surprise surprise, it fails!

I've reported this issue to the third parties involved. I hope it's a relatively simple solution, but until I hear back, I don't really know anything.

In the mean time, I'm looking at how we can code up a short term workaround should this sort of thing happen again and also how to set up a test harness for this so we don't get this sort of shock again.

Thanks tariq.ahmad I have several videos ready for a current road test, so I will need to try this out.

(and this post will keep me on the mailing list for activity in this thread)

                  Software Engineers NightMare.!

With both Facebook and Google distancing themselves from YouTube and Java "AnyThing", the time has finally come for A New Change and I'm not so sure that the  .swf to .flv convertors that started YouTube and was charged to .MP4 Standards with 5.1 Channel .M4A Standards are flexible enough to handle the upgrade needed to Proper comply with the Video Standards of today.!

The NightMare?, all those AVI and MOV with MPG files ( still in their system ) that "YouTube may Need to Convert EVERYTHING" to a New Standard and actually, they don't have The Time nor Resources to Comply The Older Stuff to The New Standard.

YouTube is now "Showing Its' Age!".
