Does anyone have contacts for a company that specializes in taking a 3D printed design and turning it into an injection molded product in mass?
As part of Project14, I came up with a desk ornament design that could be a great gift for employees. I 3D printed the prototype and very much like the end design. Since it requires putty and paint to look smooth, it's a very long way of building things in mass quantities. I'd like to get the main plastic components produced in bulk already colored.
What I'm looking to do is take my "snap together design" and have the loose parts made pre-colored and smooth. I could then manually assemble them with the rest of the parts.
I think injection moulding only starts to make sense when producing tens of thousands of pieces or more. The costs per piece are low but the up-front costs for the tooling are high.
