Easy-Bake Oven Drops Lightbulb as a Heat Source

In what is perhaps an unfortunate byproduct of the demise of the incandescent light bulb the newest iteration of Hasbro’s Easy-Bake oven doesn’t use one. A new heating element much like that of a traditional oven is used instead (compact fluorescents don’t emit enough heat to bake brownies).

Even without its 100-watt heat source the oven is still considered safe for children although Hasbro says some parental supervision is required. Children mix ingredients and then push their concoction in one end of the oven. The company says the isolated cooking chamber of the new model can reach approximately 375 degrees; the outside of the oven remains only warm to the touch. Following cooking the child’s food creations then come out the other side.
