Pynq OCR frustration

Posted by Fred27 Jun 26, 2020
I've been spending a while on what I think is going to be my Pynq embedded vision project. I say I think it will be because I'm having a frustratingly difficult time of it. it's not the FPGA stuff. That's difficult but I'm getting used to that. It's not the Pynq/Pythn side of things. It's image processing.   A friend of mine races kayaks and apparently the monitoring of kayaks crossing the finish like is manual and fraught with error. There are lots of "recounts" and nobody trusts the resu ...
The second in the PYNQ Z2 work shop series was much more involved that the first. In the first we concentrated on using PYNQ, but in the second we fired up Vivado to actually build an overlay to call from PYNQ. I can imagine that it might be quite daunting for some who'd never fired up Vivado before. Having had more experience with Vivado than Python / Jupyter, it felt a little more comfortable - if also significantly more difficult.   The core of Lab 2 was plumbing together various items ...
I really enjoyed the first PYNQ workshop and also an Embedded Hour session that was a few days later. I thought the best use of time would be to get my head around all the ways you can control the IO on the PYNQ-Z2 board.   We were given an example of using the pattern generator and trance analyzer to toggle a few pins and monitor what happens, but the example given just took some pin names and magically knew how to access them. This example for instance generated output on D0-D2 and monit ...
PYNQ-Z2: Embedded Vision Workshop Series with Adam Taylor   Getting Started | Getting Up and Running  | Unlocking Your Inner PYNQ Hero  | Project14 | PYNQ Workshop   I don't know about you, but I've always meant to delve properly into Pynq and I'm looking forward to the three workshops, starting with this one on 5th May. PYNQ-Z2 Workshop: Getting Started with PYNQ (Win a $500 Gift Card for Your Embedded Vision Project!)   I bought a PYNZ-Z2 and thought it would b ...

Change of name

Posted by Fred27 Jan 22, 2020
I just changed my name (From David Murphy to Fred Murphy) in my profile and thought I'd head off any potential confusion with a blog post.   Nothing too strange going on. Both are me. David's my actual name although most people (even my wife and kids) know me as Fred. Most places on line I'm Fred. I think I created my account on E14 as David as it came off the back of my Farnell account which had my shipping address at work as David. Seeing as I have a new job where from day one everyone k ...
NFC RFID Enter Your Electronics & Design Project for a chance to win a $100 Shopping Cart! Back to The Project14 homepage Project14 Home Monthly Themes Monthly Theme Poll   Recently I started work on a new board. This one will be a front door entry system, so I decided to go with something that could read my NFC implant but also had a numeric keypad for the kids (and anyone else) to use. Not everyone wants to be chipped. Crazy, isn't it? I'll write more up on the board when it ge ...
So, the board is back from the fab. It looks really nice - especially as it only cost $1 (+$8 shipping) for 3 from Seeed. It's been pasted, populated and toasted and ready for test. Well - it would be ready for test if it wasn't missing just one component - an out-of-stock 32.768kHz crystal. The board will eventually be the way into my house. There's a small NFC antenna that I'm hoping will be tuned well enough for the tiny NFC implant in my hand. There's a capacitive touch keypad (hence the ...
Well, I've finally finished my RTM3004 Road Test! Rohde & Schwarz Oscilloscope Kit RTM3K-COM4 - Review   It was a amazing to be selected for it and I'm really grateful to E14 and Rohde & Schwarz. I felt that such an impressive piece of test equipment deserved a good road test and I hope that's what I managed. I always feel that if I've committed to a Road Test then I really want to get it done to the best of my ability and on time. I'm amazed when I see people who it seems don't f ...
