Having constructed the small 4 degree of freedom (4 DOF) plastic robot arm, similar to the MeArm,  ( A Small Simple Robot Arm : Part 1 Mechanical Construction  ) I have now added a Nano controller and some simple software.     For this initial software I have not used the Servo library but instead written my own PWM generation for the micro servo motors. I did this for two reasons; first I wanted to have complete control over the servo motors rather than relying on someone ...
Christmas may have passed but the presents still linger on. One of my Christmas presents (admittedly to myself) was an 8 legged walking robot. I have a great interest in walking robots and hope one day to have a whole herd of them. This is one of the first 8 legged walking robots that I have seen. The 6 legged walking robots (not the hexabug type) are fairly common and I have several already. I obtained this Little 8 version which is a self assembly kit, so you get the fun of making it and then ...
I was impressed with the MeArm self-build small robot arm since I first encountered in quite a few years ago now. So much so that I had a simpler version designed for me when I was at the University which was only 3 degrees of freedom version and could be made within a 4 hour laboratory timetabled for first year engineering students. Over a few years the students made hundreds of these:     but I always wanted my own proper four degree of freedom version. I was unwilling to pay the ...

'I am Hertz'

Posted by dubbie Jan 19, 2020
Well, I made it to the next level in Element 14 and to paraphrase Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy, 'I am Hertz'!   So I must now be a cycle, which is like frequency but on a different wavelength. Over time I will have to modulate my amplitude in order to fit within the bandwidth allowed by Element14. During the last few years my waist, some would say paunch, has varied but I like to think of it as Paunch Width Modification (PWM).  I also like to think I am in control but others say ...

Nearly There!

Posted by dubbie Jan 18, 2020
Sometime very soon I will reach the magical 100,000 points mark in the Element14 Community.     Will there be a big fanfare with balloons falling from the ceiling? Will I suddenly become all-wise and all-knowing and know the answer to life, the universe and everything (assuming that it is not 42)? What happens when you are no longer a Tesla?   Dubbie ...
